On supervised release? Start here

Supervised release is not the end of the sentence. It is the part served at home, with conditions, reporting, and drug testing, and a violation can mean going back inside. The good news is that it does not have to run its full length. Federal law lets a judge end supervision early, and judges do it when the record in front of them supports it. This page explains how that record gets built.

Free ConsultationTell us how long you have been on supervision and how it is going. We will walk through the readiness questions with you and explain what judges generally look for.

What matters most

Know your conditions cold. Every condition is a tripwire. Travel, employment changes, new arrests, even moving house can require permission first. Most violations are not new crimes. They are paperwork and permission failures.

Build the compliance record. Steady work, completed programs, clean tests, and a stable home are the raw material of an early termination motion. Keep proof of all of it. Certificates, pay records, and completion letters are what a judge actually reads.

Ask at the right time. The statute allows termination after one year of supervision, and most judges want to see at least that much clean time, often more. Filing too early can burn credibility. Filing with a strong record gives the motion its best chance.

Start with the free checklist

Our Early Termination Readiness Checklist walks through the same questions a judge will weigh: time served on supervision, compliance history, employment, programming, and what your probation officer is likely to say. It takes a few minutes and it is free.

When you are ready to go deeper, our early termination page explains the service itself, and the guides below cover the do-it-yourself path.

Start With the Written Guide

Plenty of people prepare these motions themselves with the right paperwork in hand. Our Early Termination line was built for that:

Early Termination Guide - $29. What judges look for, when to file, and how the motion is put together, explained in plain language.

Early Termination Toolkit - $69. The guide plus the working documents: a readiness checklist, a compliance record worksheet, and a motion framework.

Early Termination Complete Bundle - $79 (BEST VALUE). The full guide and the full toolkit in one package, the explanation and the working documents together.

What It Costs

The consultation is free. If hands-on support fits your situation, we send a written quote with a fixed total price before any work starts. A deposit of 50% of the quoted fee reserves your matter. You may cancel before work begins and receive a full refund of the deposit. Work begins when our team opens your file and starts research or document preparation after the deposit is received. Once work begins, the deposit is non-refundable, because that time is spent on your matter and cannot be recovered. The remaining balance is due as stated in your written agreement. Digital products are covered by the Digital Product Terms: if a file cannot be opened or is corrupted, we will replace it or refund it.

Common Questions

How early can I apply?

The law allows a judge to terminate supervision after one year, once the court is satisfied it is warranted by your conduct and the interest of justice. In practice, the strongest motions usually come with more time and a spotless record. The checklist above helps you judge where you stand.

What does the judge look at?

The same sentencing factors that shaped the original sentence, applied to how supervision has gone: your history and characteristics, the need for supervision to protect the public or provide treatment, and your compliance record. Your probation officer's position carries real weight, which is why the relationship and the record both matter.

What if I had a violation?

It depends on what happened and what followed. A single technical violation with a strong record after it is very different from a pattern. Be honest with us about it. A motion that ignores a problem the judge can see in the record does more harm than good, and sometimes the right answer is to wait and build.
